So, why horses?

Equines- the official name for horses, donkeys, and mules- are sentient animals that are capable of forming meaningful and reflective relationships with humans. They have their own emotions, and are also remarkably sensitive to the emotions of those around them. As prey animals, they must be acutely aware of their surroundings, and therefore offer a perspective and response that is distinct from other animals often used in a therapeutic setting. In this regard, horses are uniquely able to teach us about self-awareness, boundary setting, communication, body language, and assertiveness. By attuning to a horse’s emotions and reactions, they can give us valuable feedback about our own actions.

In short, horses have an ability to empower us in a way no other animal can.
